A HYKO® tuning fork density meter tells the plant when the water has gone, so the drain can close before oil escapes.

In the oil day tank, water settles beneath the oil and is drawn off through the bottom outlet, while recovered oil leaves by a separate outlet towards the transfer pump. The task is to remove the water, then stop draining as the water–oil interface approaches the outlet.
A HYKO® TD-701 monitors the liquid in the bottom draw-off path. As the interface approaches, the measured density changes. The meter sends a 4–20 mA signal (RS485 also available) to the plant control system, which can close the drain valve at a configured oil-phase setpoint.
A live density signal supports the drain decision, reducing manual intervention and limiting oil carryover into the water discharge. The meter is a direct-insertion tuning-fork unit with built-in temperature compensation.
Water and oil have different densities, so the reading from an inline tuning fork density meter changes as the liquid in the draw-off path moves from water to oil. That makes density a practical signal for automatic water draining from a tank bottom, without relying on manual checks or sight glasses.
Setpoint closes the drain before oil reaches the outlet. Illustrative only; confirm final piping and control logic at site.
